Our Goal

Our team, comprised of four students, was tasked with producing an application that meets the following functionality:

Our Product

Thus, ProtectUH was born. Our application seeks to help keep our UH campus safe by providing a simple and easy to use app for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to complete their daily check ins before reporting to campus. The application allows users to log in and specify whether or not they are experiencing COVID symptoms. Upon submitting the form, users receive a message stating whether they are cleared to report to campus that day. Users may submit the form again later in the day if their status changes. Users can view a log of their check ins on the Check In History Page which includes details such as dates and times and their COVID status for those submissions. Users can input information about their vaccine status and upload a picture of their vaccine card. The Home Page also provides resources regarding COVID guidelines and Testing.

Main Takeaways

Although we all contributed to overseeing the whole project, members were also assigned specific tasks and roles. My tasks included implementing the Landing Page, Home Page, and Check In History Page. I enjoyed exploring new design tools and techniques while working on the front end. I’ve also gotten to know my IDE better, learning the shortcuts and features. It was an exciting experience working on a team with members from different technical backgrounds. Our code reviews gave me an opportunity to be a resource for my team and my team a resource for me.
